The Wrecking Crew's "Farewell to Glen Campbell" @Bogies in Westlake Village Thurs Aug 2, 8:00pm

Join original members of The Wrecking Crew & some of LA’s best singers for a night of music that pays tribute to the late, great Glen Campbell.

THE BAND: Don Peake - guitar, Don Randi - piano, Chuck Berghofer - bass, Eric Ekstrand - keys, Paul Kreibich - drums

The Wrecking Crew was a collective of LA session musicians whose services were employed for thousands of studio recordings in the 60s & early 70s. They worked with dozens of producers - Brian Wilson, Terry Melcher, Lou Adler, Bones Howe, Jimmy Bowen & Mike Post & teamed with artists as diverse as Jan & Dean, Bobby Vee, Nancy Sinatra, the Grass Roots, Simon & Garfunkel, Glen Campbell, the Partridge Family, David Cassidy, the Carpenters, John Denver & Nat King Cole.

Glen Campbell was a touring member of The Beach Boys, filling in for Brian Wilson, playing bass & singing falsetto harmonies. He played guitar on the Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds & released "Wichita Lineman", written by Jimmy Webb with backing from members of the Wrecking Crew. In 1975, Glen Campbell released Rhinestone Cowboy & the song by the same name became his largest-selling single & 1 of his best-known recordings. "Rhinestone Cowboy" continues to be used in TV shows & films, including Desperate Housewives, Daddy Day Care, and High School High & was the inspiration for the 1984 Dolly Parton/Sylvester Stallone movie Rhinestone.

Brian Auger's Oblivion Express Returns to The Baked Potato in Studio City Aug 10 & 11, 9pm (2 sets)

Most know of Brian Auger as the inimitable Hammond Organ sound of Jazz/Rock, and long before that he was making a name for himself winning Melody Maker's Jazz Poll as a piano player. Brian’s signature driving style was developed through his early years playing Jazz in an early 60's swinging London Jazz scene at Ronnie Scott's and many other hot spots of the time. The Brian Auger Trinity Jazz Trio was featured many times on The BBC Jazz Show. Brian has 45 years of touring and recording as a Hammond Organ artist, gained Congressional Recognition for his contribution to the American art form of Jazz & received a Grammy nomination.

"Brian's power & love for the music was the foundation for one of the most memorable tours I have ever done. With this great solid foundation, it made it possible for us to blow free! Brian is a true inspiration to work with despite the fact he is an Englishman. Brian is a bad Mutha...!!!" - Les McCann

"Brian Auger is a superb technician on his instrument, but he also plays with feeling that is a rarity." - Eddie Harris

“Brian Auger is a personal friend and great artist. I have had the opportunity to work with Brian just as a trio, he made his keyboard sound like a big band! He is a composer, arranger, complete keyboard player, a great accompanist. I enjoy playing with Brian, he can really make it happen." - Louis Bellson

Josh Nelson & Nick Mancini: "2 and 4" Upstairs @ Vitello's Friday July 20, 7:30pm

Join pianist Josh Nelson and vibraphonist Nick Mancini as they present an evening of mostly original music with a few choice standards in both duo & quartet settings together with Alex Boneham on bass & Shawn Baltazor on drums.

Sublime artistry, boundless creativity, & consummate technique are the hallmarks of this of locally celebrated, world-class duo hailing from starkly contrasting home fronts. Both player-composers appreciate the value of a well-conceived composition & the turn of a clever melodic phrase, but their organic synchrony & dulcet tone  distinguishes this compelling musical coupling.
